How does someone get admitted to a State psychiatric Center?

 In New York State, most people who require inpatient psychiatric treatment receive it in a psychiatric unit of a general hospital. State psychiatric centers generally treat individuals who need intermediate to long-term treatment, so most admissions to State psychiatric centers are actually transfers from psychiatric units in general hospitals.
