Question How can I find out if I might be eligible for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP- the new name for the Food Stamp Program)?

Answer The quickest way to find out is to visit www.myBenefits.ny.gov and use the prescreening tool. By entering some basic information about yourself and your family, myBenefits will quickly let you know if your household may qualify for SNAP, but the final determination must be made by the County Social Services Department. Eligibility for SNAP is based upon a variety of factors established by the Federal Government, therefore, the only way to really know if you are eligible is to file an application at your local Department of Social Services or online at www.myBenefits.ny.gov
