Question Why do Lottery profits go to the state general fund instead of directly to the schools?

Answer A constitutional amendment passed in 1967 mandates that Lottery revenues are deposited directly in a Lottery Aid to Education account as part of the general fund. Checks are written directly to school districts in the fall of each year. Click below for money allocation to schools by county.
