A logger has approached me about selling timber. What should I do?

 Timber harvesting is a tool for wise forest management. Besides providing income, it can create or maintain wildlife habitat, protect watersheds, and enhance recreational trails, among other things. Always have a written contract to protect you and the logger. Within staffing limitations, NYSDEC provides a free on site visit to evaluate your woodlot, but NYSDEC can not administer a timber sale. DEC also recommends you consider hiring or utilizing the services of a professional forester to administer the timber sale, who will manage your property to meet your goals.
