I know diet and nutrition are important to my health as I grow older, but am not sure what this means when it comes to what I eat. How does what I eat affect my health, and are there special concerns for older people?
Generally, a healthy diet means following the Dietary Guidelines for Americans set out by the federal government. However, chronic health problems may mean special dietary needs. And yes, the elderly, particularly if frail and living alone, tend to be more at risk of inadequate diets and may need to take special steps for good nutritional health.
