How do I apply for my first driver license in New York State as a new driver?

 You must be age 16 or older to apply for a NYS learner permit and driver license.

The DMV web site has the instructions for new drivers and information for drivers under age 18.

If you have a driver license from a location other than NYS, the DMV web site has information for drivers from other US states or from Canada and information for drivers from outside the US or Canada.
