Question What is the Habitat Protection Section of DEC? Where can I find more information about this program?

Answer The Habitat Protection Program is made up of three units, all located in the Department of Environmental Conservation's central office. Staff in these units work to monitor and mitigate any adverse impacts that might result from the operation of steam-electric and hydroelectric power plants. DEC’s biologists further ensure the protection of fish and wildlife in statewide energy planning and use. The Habitat Protection Section also coordinates and assists DEC professionals throughout the state in carrying out statutory protection programs for wetlands and streams, and administers the Federal Aid to Fish and Wildlife (FW47T), which provides federal money to help support these programs.
