Is a license required to possess radioactive materials or x-ray equipment, and what fees apply, if any?
In most cases a license from the Department of Labor is required to possess and use radioactive materials. The fee for obtaining a radioactive materials license ranges from $1200 to $3375, depending upon the types and quantities of materials authorized. Radiation equipment (e.g. x-ray machines, cyclotrons, and electron microscopes) is required to be registered with the Department. There is no fee for this registration. Businesses interested in obtaining a radioactive materials license or who wish to register radiation equipment should contact the Department of Labor.
