Our school-age child has a disability, for which an individualized education plan (IEP) has been developed. Still, we are not sure that the school is providing what's needed. What should we do?
The NYS Education Department's Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities offers several free publications for parents that explain educational rights and programs for children with disabilities and provide guidance that can help you resolve your concerns. On-line, go to http://www.nysed.gov, follow the link to VESID, and click on 'Special Education.' Information is also available from the NYS Office of Advocate for Persons with Disabilities, 1-800-522-4369 (Voice/TTY/Spanish).
