How do I become a licensed real estate salesperson or broker in New York State?
To be a licensed real estate salesperson, you must complete a 45-hour salesperson qualifying education course in real estate as approved by the Secretary of State and pass the Department of State's qualifying exam. For a broker's license, you must have at least one year of experience as a licensed real estate salesperson or at least two years of experience in the general real estate field, demonstrate completion of the 45-hour salespersons course and the additional 45-hour Secretary of State-approved broker course, and have passed the Department's qualifying exam.
